Dolines

A dish-shaped doline, like the one in front of us, is formed by gradual subsidence of the limestone base due to dissolving activity of atmospheric water enriched with carbon dioxide. On major faults, which are able to drain more water to the underground, a funnel-shaped doline can be formed. In case karst channels under the doline are clogged, a kettle-shaped doline is created. The connection of several dolines forms an uvala.
