Forest ecosystem

The forest in the karst area fulfil an important ecostabilizing function. They protext the thin soil stratum against erosion, preserve equal moisture of the soil stratum and regulate the chemical properties of the leaking water. For many animals they provide a suitable shelter and considerably participate in oxygen production too. The surrounding forest belongs to the beech-oak vegetation belt.Predominant are the limestone beech-oak woods on stony, quick dryingsoil on limestone. There are mainly oak species (durmast oak, pubescent oak, Turkey oak), also Scotch pine, hornbeam, maple andbeech are present. The stand belongs to a protective forest category.
